You’re about to discover 3 completely epic DIY World Book Day costumes… Mads them made with her little brother Danger Boy, with the help of the ultra-lovely Irish artist Marjolein Wouters. Each one comes with a handy step-by-step guide made by my colleagues at HarperCollins and is made with stuff you can find around the house or at the little haberdashery down the road.

Finally, a super important tip.
If you’re new to the whole Being A Grown Up thing, or you left school before World Book Day was introduced 20 years ago, here is a tip for you: You must never, ever, ever forget to make a World Book Day costume. I did. Once, in 2012. Poor Mads arrived at school in her neat little school uniform and hair neatly brushed while all the other children were arriving as tiny wizards, ballerinas, adventurers and lions.
As if giving me the The Evil Stare of Death wasn’t enough, she has for the past 5 years started to plan her World Book Day costume 364 days in advance, and to issue countdown warnings for me from the moment Santa has left the building. It’s all rather stressful, but on the plus side, the resulting costumes are rather tremendous.
What will your children be for World Book Day? Share your pics on social media with #WorldBookDay20 – we can’t wait to see them!
