This half term in London, children’s laureate and author Julia Donaldson will be reading stories and signing books in John Lewis on Oxford street to celebrate the launch of their exciting new children’s floor. It’s no secret that the Really Kid Friendly team are very big fans of Julia Donaldson and know nearly every one of her children’s books off by heart! We simply can’t get enough of her creative and imaginative use of language, and of her gift for storytelling, and are really excited about meeting her in person. Maybe some of her talent will rub off on us…
As for the John Lewis children’s floor launch, no, this is not just a refurbished children’s department… the new children’s floor, dubbed “Fun on Four”, is the result of a £4 million project and set to become the top children’s destination on Oxford Street. We’re looking forward to experiencing the unique lego shop-in-shop, the interactive Nintendo gaming area where the kids can try out the latest video games and consoles. We’ll of course be bringing along our mini reviewers so we can see what the new children’s area has to offer for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

October Half Term
Wednesday, October 26th 2011
11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you live in London or are visiting London this half term, please do pop down to John Lewis on Oxford Street – yes, there will be queues, but Julia Donaldson is worth it!
If you can’t make it, be sure to stop in John Lewis later this Autumn and let us know what you think!
Our favourite Julia Donaldson books
Now this is a tough one – we just love her writing, and it’s hard to choose! We are particularly partial to the books she creates with illustrator Axel Scheffler – as a team they tell such vivid, imaginative stories. We love A Squash and a Squeeze, Monkey Puzzle, Stick Man, Tiddler, Tabby McTat, Room on the Broom, and of course The Gruffalo – they are so much fun to read. The Snail and the Whale always makes me cry, but I love it all the same. Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose always has our preschooler in stitches. Our family’s all-time favourite, though, is the beautiful Sharing a Shell, a genuinely moving tale of companionship.
