For young children, London has some of the best puppet shows and interactive family friendly performances in the world – check out Little Angel Theatre, Unicorn Theatre and Jackson’s Lane for an unforgettable introduction to theatre. Also keep an eye on those lovely folks at Tall Stories - they do a whole range of kids musicals based on your favourite Julia Donaldson books including The Gruffalo stage show.
Once the kids are a little older, taking in one of London’s West End shows is a must – our favourites by a mile are Wicked, The Lion King and Matilda the Musical, and our 6 year old is a massive fan of Horrible Histories. Next on our “dying to see” list is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Sightseeing Tours and Visitor Attractions
For older kids, the Warner Bros Studio Tour featuring the making of Harry Potter is an absolute must, as is the Jack the Ripper and London Dungeons tour. You should also check out London Walks, whose team of high energy actors lead you on some fun and informative tours around hidden London.
If you’re in London with very young children, or if the grandparents are visiting the new baby and you want to keep all generations happy, we would recommend a walk along the South Bank, stopping for a bite to eat in one of the many child-friendly restaurants (Giraffe is superb), waving at the boats, and running up and down the long ramp at the Tate Modern. They also have a play area but the kids prefer the ramp!
