I’d been scouting out the most family friendly London musicals and West End shows to see over Christmas break, and was treated to some tickets to see STOMP at the Ambassadors Theatre London… the idea being that I would write a little STOMP review from the perspective of a parent and get you guys out there over the school holidays.
So, I have a confession to make.
Far from sitting there dutifully taking notes for my STOMP review, I was transfixed from the very first second and my eyes never left the stage. I didn’t write down a single word! That night was a rare treat indeed – taking to the stage in the lead role was British TV presenter Nigel Clarke, better known to kids as the face of Toy Testers TV and to mums as that dishy dad who gave us a sneak peek behind the scenes of the Frozen movie and Monsters University. Having been with STOMP for a dozen years, Clarke’s STOMP performance is so natural it doesn’t feel like a performance at all. He had audience in the palm of his hand, and he had us all wishing we’d stuck out those tap dance lessons after all.
From the opening scene, STOMP just builds and builds and builds – it’s high energy, laugh-out-loud funny, perfectly choreographed and completely immersive, and the rhythms the London STOMP company create are positively infectious. They are such a tight knit, incredibly talented troupe, and look like they’re genuinely enjoying putting on a show for us… which in turn makes STOMP a real joy to experience.
Much as I would love to describe my favourite scenes, words just can’t do them justice so I will leave it at this:
STOMP is an unmissable family friendly show, positively bursting with energy, and the one West End show you’ll want to see again and again. Go. Now.
Tickets are available from The Ambassadors Theatre London!
