The Muppets

A little about the film…

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Feb 10, 2012.

  1. My sister and I used to have 3 muppet show albums and I used to spend lots of afternoons listening to them. I wish I’d kept them!
    @kathvbtn

  2. I saw the movie on Sunday, it was good! Earliest
Muppet memory is of beaker and how the scientist would
    Electrocute him by mistake!

  3. Mine has to be watching Beaker get thrown through a door – I thought he was really hurt and wouldn’t stop crying until he came back at the end to sing a song (with the Dog playing the piano, of course) and then I knew he’d be okay. Funnily enough, he is now my daughter’s favourite Muppet too!

  4. My first memory isn’t that long ago! I had heard of the muppets but didn’t really know them! Nearly 9 Years ago my lovely Boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to the muppets christmas carol, which is now our traditionally christmas eve movie, we then went on to watch the other films and the muppets are now part of the family.
Both kids have had pjs with them on, they both have a soft toy and even call their uncle Gonzo!

  5. My earliest memory is of the Swedish Chef doing crazy cooking on The Muppets Show – we made a spoon character of him at primary school & it was proudly displayed in my
Mum’s kitchen for years! Now I am looking forward to taking my two little girls to see The Muppets film in half term next week. The circle of life eh?! @CazzaE

  6. Pigs in space! I also remember dressing as Miss Piggy when I went to a fancy dress party when I was 6! My little daughter loves her too!

  7. I loved the muppets as kids and one of my first memories was laughing so hard at the swedish chef and the chicken!

  8. I used to sing Muppet songs, especially Menah Menah, in the back of the car on long journeys to ward off travel sickness!

  9. My earliest muppet memory is probably watch Muppet Babies. I had one video that used to get played on loop. But as for real muppets, it’s when ITV reran the muppet show in the 90’s it was the highlight of my weeks when I was about 7 and helped form my sense of humour in to what it isnowhere and started my obsession with those incredible characters and the works of Jim Henson. I remember having a friend round, getting snacks from the corner store and forcing him to sit and watch it with me and my family because it was the best thing on telly and he hadn’t seen it.

Saw the new movie last weekend and it’s incredible, going again on Saturday.

  10. I love the way the muppets make people feel, old or young, the muppets always bring out the best in people. I don’t know anyone who would turn down a chance to meet any of them.

  11. i loved the Muppets since a young girl it was Miss Piggy with her high ya that made me laugh. Poor Kermit he loves Miss Piggy but she’s a feisty lady and loves the attention.

  12. I’ve loved the Muppets as far back as I can remember. My earliest memory is when I was about three or four and had asked Santa for my very own Kermit.
On Christmas morning I opened all my presents and was devastated because there was no Kermit. Tears followed and tantrums were no doubt on their way until my grandad pointed out the door of the garden shed was ajar. He suggested that maybe Santa had stopped in there for some reason.
To this day I remember running into the shed and finding my Kermit.
The story is still spoken about by my family to this day, I’m 33 now. However, my family have never been able to properly explain why they decided to stash my most wanted present in the shed in the first place!

  13. As a child a little on the chubby side, my memory of the Muppets has to be the chorused singing from my siblings and cousins calling me ‘Miss Piggy!”

It was very traumatic for me to admit to this horrendous memory, but I feel I’ve made a step in the right direction by opening up about it : )

    • Aww! Poor you!
One of my cousins was a little on the chubby side too & the rest of the cousins used to sing “…and I do appreciate you being Round…” whenever he walked in the room. I think it might have coloured his view of The Beatles forever!

  14. I used to love watching the muppets when I was a kid – a long time ago now! I always loved kermit and miss piggy and loved seeing how Miss Piggy’s style has changed through the years!

  15. I started watching the muppets at the age of 6 and remember
Miss piggy karate chopping anyone that annoyed her- hilarious.

  16. My earliest memory of the Muppets is watching them on TV with my parents many years ago. I always loved Miss Piggy and have to say that to this day, I still love her style!

  17. I grew up watching American telly, so I’ve been a fan of The Muppets and Sesame Street since I was a little kid. Kermit has always been my absolute favourite and my best and perhaps earliest memory would have to be either Kermit singing ‘Rainbow Connection’ or watching him dressed up as a lady mud wrestler on The Muppet Show!! Hilarious and heartwarming. I love The Muppets!! 🙂 x

  18. My earliest memory is sitting down with my cousin in 1978 to watch the Muppets TV Show . I would sing out “It’s time to play the music , It’s time to light the lights . It’s time to get things started on the Muppetational , inspirational Muppet Show tonight ” . My cousin is now 38 .

  19. when i was born i brought my big sister, who was two at the time, a miss piggy doll, and when my dad brought her to visit me in hospital that was how she knew i was the baby she wanted to bring home!

  20. Lying on a mattress next to my mum and dad’s bed, aged 3, being sick into a pail at the same time as watching The Muppets and The Raccoons. I had some crazy fever induced crossover dreams afterwards!

  21. I had a toy miss piggy when i was younger which used to go everywhere with me. I always used to watch the muppet show every weekend without fail.

  22. My earliest Muppet memory is sitting with all my family in the living room and watching the Muppet Show and Luke Skywalker being on there, who being a little girl, I though he was gorgeous.

  24. I remeber watching the muppets as a kid with my mum, I think it used to be on a Saturday night but cant be sure.

  25. My earliest Muppet Show memory is taking my Scooter cuddly toy on holiday to Cyprus and the guy at Heathrow security asking to see my ‘bear’ and then proceeding to pummel and squeeze him very enthusiastically!
Being 7 years old, I didn’t understand that he was checking for sharp objects or drugs and got really upset! I was especially upset because I had made Scooter his own passport so as far as I was concerned he was ‘good to travel’.
Scooter was allowed on the plane, but as my parents’ mentioned when we discussed the incident a few years later, his ‘sneakers’ were made of solid rubber and a good round-the-head swing would have knocked someone out, so in the wrong hands he would have been quite dangerous!

  26. My children loved Sesame Street when they were small and that’s how I first came across the Muppets My favourite song was The Boogie Woogie Sheep.

  27. Earliest muppet memory…… coming back from the beach on a saturday evening about 7 years old, my dad making us chips and us waiting for that moment when the music starts…it’s time to play the music…. we loved the swedish chef

  29. The muppets were big news when I first started teaching in 1978 and I remember buying Kermit the frog for my infant class. The children used to take turns of having him sit on their desk when they had been working well. Poor Kermit had a little accident when someone left him on a radiator and he scorched his leg a bit. Think he is probably hibernating in a box up my attic somewhere!

  30. Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggs in spaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccce!!!!!!! Oh, and thinking Miss Piggy was incredibly glamourous *blush*

  31. I remember a family friend bringing round a cassette tape of the muppet show, it was purple plastic with a green label and the coolest thing I had ever seen, I think I was about 6, so mid 80’s… all the classics on and I still remember the words so I guess I listened to it a lot!

  32. My first memories of the Muppets are rather vague, a bear playing a piano and eating crumpets as I watched

  33. Earliest memory was seeing kermit & miss piggy in a scene…don’t remember what was said, only that I found it hilarious and loved miss piggy! 🙂

  34. watching the muppets on tv on their show with my children when they were little
i think the kermit was always the best and my favourite my son would love to watch him
and still has that kermit toy

  35. My earliest memory is my dad coming home from work with a Kermit the Frog because I was so crazy about The Muppets. It was a brilliant toy, really big and just fantastic. A couple of years ago my parents moved house and cleared out their loft and found Kermit, he was still in perfect condition, they sold him at a boot fair for a few pounds, I wish I had kept him 🙁

  36. My earliest memory is watching the muppets every week with my older brother. My favourite character was Miss Piggy.

I absolutely loved the Muppets theme tune and even to this day, still think it’s one of the best openings to a show!

  41. My earliest memory is the opening titles from when I was a kid, and it used to be on, on a Friday night (I think!)

  48. My earliest memory is being sat in front of my mums friends tv and seeing the opening credits to The Muppet Show. The flashing multi coloured lights behind all the different characters just had me completely transfixed! I watched the whole show, and even though Muppet Labs scared me a little, as did Pigs in Space, I was hooked straight away! Not long after that my mum bought me a Muppets Show TShirt and I used to wear it every time a show was on! I am still a HUGE Muppet fan and am so pleased they are back for world domination!

  49. ‘Halfway up the stairs is the stair where I sit, there isn’t any other stair quite, like, it….Its not at the bottom, its not at the top, but this is the stair where I always sit.’

Sung by a melancholy Kermit when Miss Piggy has just done her usual ‘HeyYah’ brush off….. Love the Muppets.

May also have featured Kermit with his arm around Robin his nephew ;D

Yup I still have the 1970’s album on vinyl……

  50. Watching muppet babies with my brother, dancing around and saying “I like to dance” in animals voice 🙂

  51. I loved the Muppets as a kid. We have a family tradition of signing the walls before we decorate, adding things that are important in our lives at the time. I was helping my Mum decorate after my Dad died, about years ago, and found various childhood scribbles but the only one I remember was written in big letters and it read ‘My Dad IS the Great Gonzo!” Goodness knows what year it was written but my Dad was the best so I guess that says what I felt about Gonzo!

  59. Cant remember if I left a comment or not now! (must be getting old!) My earliest memory is of sitting and watching with my nan on her sofa, I always loved Beeker and the chickens. Have a soft spot for the evil blue dragon as I love his whiskers, and the singing fruit and veg! Loved the new movie so much might just have to go again!

  60. When I was about 5 years old I had the same dream every night and the dream was that Kermit and Miss Piggy was taller then any building and they used to come looking for me and chase me throw the streets of my home town. For a 5 year old this was a very terrifying experience and I used to wake up every night dripping with cold sweets, shaking, screaming this went on for about a month and in the end mum took me to the Doctors who refered me to a specialist. Thankfully a received special treatment which worked and now looking back I laugh and think that Kermit and Miss Piggy re the cutest thing ever!

(PS, I’m 36 now, and this must qualify as one of my earliest memories)

  72. My earliest memory of the muppets is in the late 70’s when I was a toddler. It’d be bath time, followed by getting pyjamas on and settling down in front of the telly to watch “The Muppet Show”… I used to get so excited when the music started. I was sooo in love with Kermit (still am!).
I used to have a green rubber/foam kermit bendy toy and my dad used to pretend to make it talk to me. I really believed it was talking! I kept the toy Kermit until it had perished into a pile of green dust x

  73. I remember being very much in love with Kermit from a very early age! From Sesame Street, through the Muppet Show and the films, Fraggle Rock and the Storyteller series, Jim Henson and his creature workshop played a really massive part in my childhood. I’m so hoping that my nearly 3-year-old daughter will also be a fan!
