  1. The cafe serves very good food with lots of organic products, great for lunch or just a coffee and a cake. On a sunny weekends it gets really busy, so it’s a good idea to arrive early if you are planning to have lunch there. But you can also grab a coffee to take away from the side shop. The toilets are provided by the parks management, so they are very basic, but generally clean. There is also plenty of space for your pram in the outside terrace. The surrounding Highgate Woods park is excellent not only for the kids but also for parents to have a walk.

  2. I really love this place, despite its flaws! The service is hit and miss depending on who is on duty – sometimes it’s super-efficient and so friendly that you feel like part of the family. Other times it’s just a bit disorganised and slow. They also seem to sometimes have some weird kitchen closure times between brekkie and lunch- a few times I’ve been there for an emergency toddler lunch at 11:30 am only to find the kitchen closed for an hour.

That said, the food is always really good and very affordable, and you can have something really light like homemade soup or some smoked mackerel pate with pita, or recover from a buggy fitness class by stuffing yourself with pasta. The fish goujons & chips are superb but they only do them in kiddie size… I always feel a little shy asking for a double kiddie portion but they really are too good to pass up! There are lots of highchairs, the outside bit has shady bits and umbrellas, the covered outdoor bit is heated and protected from the wind, and the ice cream is gorgeous. I also love the atmosphere – it’s very laid back and it’s in the middle of the woods, so nobody minds if the kids run around or are louder than they should be, or if your buggy is covered in mud. Thank goodness for that or I’d never be able to eat out with my loud muddy children

  3. Great for families, although the service can be pretty slow!

A really nice place to head if it’s sunny. Plenty of highchairs (although some are pretty grubby) and mostly outdoor seating with lots of umbrellas for shade. The staff are friendly but the service can be slow when they are busy. The menu has a great selection of meals but they also serve delicious cakes etc. A lot of the ingredients are locally sourced and some are organic. Always a relaxed, charming atmosphere.
