Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, London – Family Friendly Museum Award Winner 2013

Horniman Museum in Forest Hill - LondonThe Horniman Museum and Gardens is joint winner of Kids in Museums‘ Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award 2013 and was voted by families as being one of the most child friendly museums in London. It has a unique range of exhibits, events and activities which illustrate the cultural and natural world, and while some of the precious objects may be locked away in glass cases, you can ask a local “explainer” to take it out of the case for the kids to handle it. Children will also enjoy the regular storytelling and art and craft sessions and half term activities.

  1. This is such a great place for kids of all ages and as it’s free is a place you can go back to time and time again. The special exhibitions which you pay for are always worth checking out as well. We usually treat ourselves to lunch as we haven’t paid to get it and the food is really very good and not too expensive. There’s such a variety of things to do: little aquarium, mad room with stuffed animals – almost better than a zoo as they don’t run away ! Music room, gardens and lots of hands-on stuff.

  2. This is such a great place to take the kids. There is a lot of hands on stuff for kids to do and its also pretty interesting for the parents.
We visited recently and were told that the aquarium will be charging an entry fee from 2011 – £2. This is still exceptional value!

  3. I love this place. It’s set in pretty gardens with a little ‘farm’ (some goats, chickens and rabbits) and the museum itself is great for any age. The aquarium is lovely, even for tiny babies, and the music room has lots of weird looking instruments that will amuse the kids (and the adults!) There are lots of free activities in the summer and live music events in the gardens.
