Free Super 8 adventure pack inspired by Spielberg’s latest film

Super 8 - Steven Spielberg film. © 2011 Paramount Pictures. All Rights Reserved.

An exciting sci-fi film for older kids, Super 8 is the latest Steven Spielberg production and said to boast a clever mix of visual effects, unscripted scenes, and an old fashioned coming-of-age feel reminiscent of Stand By Me. While we can’t match Spielberg’s special effects, we can help fuel that wonderful sense of adventure and discovery in your children with a free activity pack for the summer holidays and beyond!

The Super 8 Adventure Pack is packed with ideas for children of all ages, including an alien scavenger hunt, how to make a snail farm, an energetic bike ride version of hide and seek, Super 8 bicycle olympics, and fort building. There are also ideas for sleepover parties and rainy days.

Themed around a film about kids making their own home movie, there are of course great prompts for film making and writing your own scripts, and creating your own story boards.

The Super 8 Story:

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined. Directed by J.J. Abrams from his original script, the Bad Robot / Amblin Entertainment Production is produced by Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.

Inspiring kids to go out and make their own movies

Super 8 filmmaker Bryan Burk says: “What I hope and get excited about with ‘Super 8’ is that kids seeing this film might be inspired to go out and make their own movies. There’s something magical about that time when all that was required to make a movie was convincing your friends to spend their summer devoted to the project. I think J.J. will give people that bug, when they realize all you need is a camera, a group of friends and an idea to make great things happen.

The film stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills.

Out now in UK cinemas.
