Will you be at Hampton Court’s Jolly Day Out this Bank Holiday weekend? PWR Events and Historic Royal Palaces are delighted to announce a new Summer Festival for the whole family – Jolly Day Out, which will take place from Friday 26th – Monday 29th August 2011, on Hampton Court Green. Kids under 12 go free.
Jolly Day Out provides an eclectic array of Summer Festival fun, top bands, award-winning kids’ shows with unexpected pleasures hidden around every corner.
Each day a headline act will take to the main stage and we are delighted to confirm Imelda May (26th), Bjorn Again (27th) and McFly (28th) will be performing, as well as Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music (29th) on the last night which will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display at the end of the evening to round off the Summer Festival. Throughout the day there will also be a great mix of bands and activities on the stage for everyone.
Jolly Day Out is all about the family so that means keeping the kids entertained. We will have live shows in the theatre every day with Charlie & Lola’s Best Bestest Play* from the BBC hit TV series and the stage show of HORRIBLE HISTORIES. We have more Festival Fun planned with hourly story- telling from The Roald Dahl Museum as well as hands-on interactive demos with the coolest experiments from the Science Museum.
Kids of all ages can monkey around recreating all the excitement of a Royal Tournament in Henry the Apes Arena, learn circus skills in our very own Big Top, make arts & crafts, have their faces painted and jump on our traditional funfair rides keeping them entertained for hours.
There will also be the chance to bet on your favourite Pig, with Pig Racing every hour and see the special Dancing Sheep, get stuck in with Welly Wanging and play a game of Crazy Golf. In addition to the fun and games there will be a delightful Summer Market with over 30 stalls jam packed with arts & crafts, gifts & jewellery as well as delicious homemade cakes and fudge.
And finally, we haven’t forgotten about the adults… Whilst the kids are off being entertained, the parents can relax with a well-deserved drink of their choice. There will be Pimms, beer and Champagne tents, for starters. We are also delighted that Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts will be at the Festival, providing delicious food for all the family, a Pizza Express, Maggies Farm, SoulFoods Co and Flaming Cactus to name a few.
All this and much more will be available in an afternoon of fun packed family tomfoolery!

Horrible Histories
We all want to meet people from history. The trouble is everyone is dead! So it’s lucky that The Birmingham Stage Company are performing scenes from their amazing production of HORRIBLE HISTORIES! From Roman Britain to Victoria’s Empire, Britain has heaps of horrible stories to tell. Where is that Roman putting that brush? Will Henry VIII marry again? And what has Mrs Dyer been doing with all those babies? It’s history with the nasty bits left in!
Science Museum
Launch your own exploding rocket, fire a vortex of air, stand inside a bubble or take on the challenge of the human buzzer. Learn the science behind some of the Science Museum’s coolest experiments with these hands-on, interactive demos.
Roald Dahl Museum
Roald Dahl is one of Britain’s best loved children’s writers and what better way to bring his stories to life than having four storytellers from the Roald Dahl Museum at the Festival. On the hour every hour they will bring his stories to life. In addition to this throughout the day there will be arts and crafts workshops in the theme of the stories in their tent.
Pig Racing
Get ready for the race of your life! If you have never seen pig racing it is not to be missed as the pigs charging down a 65m race track. Not much form to study but select your favourite one before the race, place your bet and shout as loud as you can for your favourite! It is going to be a squeal!

Sheep Show
The 30 minute show is cleverly devised and is highly entertaining and extremely informative, a rare combination. The highlight of the show is the “The sheep show Hustle” Dancing sheep!!
Set on its own stage trailer with sound and lighting, The Sheep show can be performed up to 4 times daily and back stage, the stars can be seen throughout the day.

Jamie Oliver
Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts will be at the festival with Jamie Oliver’s ‘One Pot Wonder’. These pots are made up of pasta or couscous with a choice of delicious stews or casseroles on top. There will also have a ‘Sweet Treat’ offering which will be Jamie Oliver’s Victoria Sponges, Brownies and Muffins. Yum!
Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music
Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along! The fun-filled show starts with a vocal warm-up led by the evening’s host, who also takes the audience through their complimentary ‘magic moments pack’, containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film. Then of course there is the famous fancy-dress competition in which everyone who has come in costume is invited onto the stage to show off their fantastic tailoring skills. Fancy dress is not obligatory but highly recommended!
