Poptastic review of Pop Party 10 on CD and DVD

I was invited to review the new “Pop Party” CD, Pop Party 10, with my children over half term. Before I get on with my poptastic review of the Pop Party 10 CD and DVD, please let me make one thing perfectly clear: I would rather pour salt in my eyes than listen to Justin Bieber. The challenge of listening to and reviewing this CD was, you see, a test of my love for my children. Anyhow, here’s how it all went down…

Day Minus 3
A mysterious white padded envelope has come through the slot in the door. The children are beside themselves, as am I (I love getting mail). Madeleine is using the “elbows at eye level” technique to fend her brother off while she reads the addressee’s name. Her technique looks disturbingly similar to the one I once used in the mosh pits of my youth.

We decide the envelope is best opened after school.

Day Minus 3 – After school.

Daddy claims we absolutely must not open the envelope or the children will, and I quote, “go completely nuts”.

Day Minus 2

The children look longingly at the package. Thankfully I have distraction in the form of Hallowe’en sweets.

Day Minus 1

We are running out of excuses, but are scared to get the kids too excited either before school, before homework, after homework, or before bedtime. Or ever.

That is to say…Please don’t make me open this envelope – my children will be so excited that they may never sleep again.

Pop Day

The day has arrived.

The kids carefully tear the package open, their eyes widening with amazement. I have never before seen two more excited children.

Pop Day – 2 minutes later

Correction. Madeleine has managed to read the name of the first track, “Gangnam Style”. Now I have never before seen two more excited children.

Day 1 – 6 a.m.

I am in bed. Daddy is in bed. In fact everyone else on the street is probably still in bed.

Two children are galloping around in the other room, giggling, singing along to Gangnam Style. How do they do that? It’s in Korean for goodness sake.

Day 2

Ah yes. Let’s try and work out the correct answer to when your five year old asks “What does Sexy Lady mean?”

Day 3

We have now made it to Track 2. This one, “Call me maybe” is such a hit with my kids that I do wonder whether I will ever have to get myself through that Justin Bieber track. This makes me very happy indeed.

So there you have it, Pop Party 10 is a massive hit with my kids. Well, the first two tracks are anyway, and the whole thing has got them so excited that I can’t wait til the moment I reveal there is a DVD to go along with it…. and that it comes with this brilliant (and completely weird) Gangnam Style video, which seems to have been watched on YouTube 700 million times.

So, if you’re into shamelessly poptastic pop, then it’s pretty good as CDs go, and it certainly makes the school run much more cheery. And yes, it will make for a seriously exciting stocking filler for your kids this Christmas.

My only word of warning is that as a parent this might well be the first time you’re confronted with having to explain the concept of sexiness, or wondering whether it’s okay for a small child to shout out “Hell Yeah”. But it had to happen sooner or later.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the CD to review. All opinions are my own. Well, not ALL opinions out there – some people may have opinions of their own. But anything I’ve written about this CD is based on my own experience.
