Win FREE solar energy for your family home with #BritainsBrightestStreet

Smiling child holding a sunMy children have enough energy to power an entire neighbourhood. In fact, every time I race after them on the school run, or try and calm their frenzied bouncing on the trampoline (and on each other), I wish I had paid more attention in Physics class so I could invent a way of harnessing their energy to power my house.

In the meantime, I have been considering a much more practical option… solar energy. My cousin specialises in Sustainable Energy, and I’m not afraid to admit that I find what she does both inspiring and daunting. She’s always got some little trick for doing our bit for the environment without it feeling like a sacrifice, or posting pictures on Facebook featuring delicious little treats she’s cooked up in her solar oven. She makes it look so easy…. But every time I’ve been ready to switch to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible energy source, I’ve ended up stumbling on my reservations:

Surely solar energy needs to come from the sun. What sun??? I live in England now, so what if I only generate enough energy to make a cup of tea?

Well, thankfully I would be able to use whatever energy I needed, even if it’s more than I personally generate. And if I make little changes to the way I live and significantly reduce my energy consumption, or at least maximise my “self consumption” (using energy at the same time as I am generating energy… for example vacuuming at lunchtime) then I can keep doing all the stuff I need to do but still maximise my savings.

I can’t work out how on earth I could afford the up-front costs.

Apparently things have moved on! SunEdison, a global leader in innovation for solar energy, have a new plan with the expected benefits, but ZERO up-front cost.

Zero sounds pretty sweet compared to the many thousands I had been worried about.

I can’t live with the hassle of having people tearing up my roof while I’m trying to balance school runs, homework, my job, cooking, etc etc.

Apparently the installation is over and done with before I would have time to get annoyed about it – apparently the scaffolding needs to be up for just 3 days.

So… making the switch would be easier than I thought, without any of the hassle, and with impressive savings right from the outset. Nice.

But what if my solar energy was not only affordable but FREE? Check out what SunEdison are offering…

Live on #BritainsBrightestStreet

If you’re even vaguely considering solar energy, you must absolutely get involved in #BritainsBrightestStreet, a truly groundbreaking campaign.

#BritainsBrightestStreet is a competition of sorts, requiring you and 5 to 20 neighbours to register your interest in switching to solar energy together. The competition entry form is quick and simple to fill in, and the potential win is pretty massive indeed…

If your street wins and becomes #BritainsBrightestStreet, you and your neighbours get:

  • Solar panels installed with £0 up-front costs
  • Free solar energy for 10 years. That is a very long time.
  • Immediate savings of about 45% on your electricity bills
  • Potential increase in the value of your properties by improving your EPC rating
  • Seriously awesome feel-good factor as the winners get to nominate a local school or community project for free solar panels too.

So… what are you waiting for? Go and check out more details about #BritainsBrightestStreet, rally a few of your neighbours and apply now!

  1. Having been a solar panel owner since November I would encourage everyone to sign up as we can already see the savings and are reaping the benefits. It’s an excellent campaign and I can’t wait to see who wins it.
